How to go undefeated and win the tourney:

Don't send either of your co-caps to the draft and hope you get a team that gels!

FINAL SCHEDULE - CHECK WITH YOUR CAPTAIN ANYHOW!

from Dano 11/2 and confirmed as of 11/5:

Nov. 5 (Monday)- #1 Black (7-0) vs. #8 Pink (1-6, lost to Light Blue)
					at 6:45 pm

                    #4 White (4-3, lost to Green) vs. #5 Orange (3-4)
					at 8:20pm

Nov. 7 (Wednesday)- #2 Navy (6-1) vs. #7 Light Blue (1-6, beat Pink)
					at 6:45 pm

                    #3 Green (4-3, beat White) vs. #6 Red (2-5)
					at 8:20pm

(the records and appropriate head-to-head results are there in case something
was mistranscribed by Charles at Parks and Rec; if that is the case, please
let me know ASAP)

Nov.12 Semifinals- Winners from Nov. 5 play at 6:45pm
                   Winners from Nov. 7 play at 8:20pm

Nov. 14  pick-up from 6:45 to 7:45pm*
           17-point Final from 8-10pm (capped at 9:50pm, still only 3 total time-outs)

*this is something we've done in years past (though not every year, I don't
think) that I like because I think it brings more people out to watch the
final; however, this can lead to greater probability that the final will get
capped, which might bother some people (I've only received one complaint thus
far, but others might be silently perturbed); let me know what y'all think is
best for this, and I'll go with whatever the majority of captains want
(basically, either pick-up then the final, or just using the whole block of
time for the final); as I'm thinking about this, a third alternative might
be to have an "all-star" game after the final, but given that this is the
first time it's been mentioned, that might be better left for another year;
anyway, discuss...

ROSTER HERE
  From Dano 9/5:

Here's the schedule- it takes into account the requests i got from three teams,
but also doesn't seem to be unbalanced/unfair (for instance, no team has more
4 early games, etc.).  Games to 15, 6:45 to 8:15pm and 8:20 to 9:50pm  (I
couldn't squeeze more field time out of Charles, so they're only 1.5 hour
games, but still much better than last year; I also think the 5 minute gap
will be good to allow for completion of capped early games and/or for more
warmup before late games)

So, here goes-

1=White
2=Green
3=Black
4=Navy
5=Red
6=Orange
7=Light Blue
8=Pink

from dano:

Attached is the list of teams (including team captains and preferred team colors)- please email me and Charles if for some reason I mistranscribed someone. Charles, please email me and/or the team captain(s) if you think their color choice will be problematic. Also, it'd be good not to accept any more people into the league at this point, as it may severely tilt the playing field towards whatever team(s) get a talented late-comer.

Also, both for our review and for the benefit of Charles and Mike the timekeeper, here are the rule changes we talked about- (1) Since we have 8 teams this year (as opposed to 10 last year), we're hoping for 2 games a night, making them @1 hour and 45 minutes apiece, with the goal being to reach 15 points (win by two). (2) This also affects a lot of the other time-based rules- each team now gets 3 time-outs (still 1 minute each) per game; we'd also like a 3 minute half to catch our breath, talk strategy, etc.; and we'd like to bump the point forfeiture rule up to 1 point lost every 5 minutes (as opposed to 1 every 3 minutes last year), but with an automatic forfeiture of the game at the 30 minute mark. This will still function basically as in years past, where a team must have at least 5 of its own players to avoid losing points/forfeiting. (3) Time cap- once the game reaches the hour and 35 minute mark (10 minutes 'til its end-time), a 2 point cap goes into effect, meaning you add 2 points to the leading team's score (at the end of the point during which the cap took place), and that becomes the point goal for the game (thus, if Green is winning 11-10, the game is now to 13; an exception would be if Green were leading 14-13, because if they score the next point, they win, having reached the original goal of 15, winning by two; however, if their opponent ties it at 14, then they must play to 16...yeesh!); as in years past, you no longer have use of any remaining time-outs during a time cap. Also, once the cap is on, the game is win by one. (4) Other end of game scenarios- we decided to eliminate the "mercy rule," so that a team losing by 3 or more can still hope to mount a miraculous comeback; we also want to stress that a game should never end in the middle of a point (this happened several times last year, as was legitimate under the rules as Mike read them); thus, a game can end with the losing team scoring the last point (if Green scores to catch up to 12-13 when official time ran out during the middle of that point), and games can end in a tie (if Green ties it at 13 when official time ran out during that point).

Captain and/or Charles, please let me know if you need any further clarifications of anything. Charles, once you have the schedule figured out, please forward it on to everybody. Thanks to everybody helping out with the league, and I'll see y'all on the fields (where I look forward to heckling you mercilessly), Love, Dan-o!

I forgot to mention in my other email the change we've made to the rules regarding gender ratio- in years past, there was no default rule (it simply stated that the captains should discuss it) and this ambiguity seemed to lead to some arguments. Thus, there is now a default gender ratio of 2 women-to-5 men. Captains may still agree to institute a different gender rule for any given game (such as 1/6, 3/4, or "offense dictates"), but in the case that captains cannot reach an agreement, it is 2/5. Take note that, since this is supposed to be a co-ed league, this rule can even be enforced when a team has less than 2 women present- thus, if Red has 3-4 women present who want to play, and Black only has 1 women present, Red is more than within their rights to make Black play short-handed (2/5 vs. 1/5, in this case). Also, in the case that a team has less than 5 men present (but 3 or more women present), they may need to play 3/4 vs. the other team's 2/5. Thanks again for your attention,

Dan-o!
