Rules
In general, we will be playing by the UPA Rules, 10th edition. (Download this complete document from here: UPA Rules.pdf)
Specific rules to the Carrboro Fall Ultimate League
All games will be played to 15 points win by 2, with a soft time cap at 1 hour 30 minutes into the game (8:30pm for the 7pm
game and 10:15pm for the 8:45pm game), at which point game is to 2 points higher than the higher score at the end of the point
currently at play, but still win by 2. If, at the end of 1 hour 45 minutes, the cap score has not been reached, the game
will be hard capped, at which point the game is to 1 point higher than the higher score at the end of the point currently
at play, but now win by 1. If the leading team is ahead by 3 points at the time of the hard cap, they will immediately be
declared the winner. Half-time will occur when 8 points is achieved by either team and will last 4 minutes.
Games are to start at the time specified, or 5 minutes after the completion of the prior game (including when needing
to wait to get on the field for the 7pm game). If one team is not ready to play at the scheduled start time for the game,
point penalties will be assessed as 2 points after 5 minutes and 1 point for each additional 5 minutes. Teams may play with
a reduced roster as opposed to waiting on additional players, and may have to if they cannot meet the gender ratio.
Gender ratio will be discussed by captains before the game. Options, if agreed on by both captains: play 5:2 ratio for
entire game, or let offense dictate ratio for each point (5:2 or 6:1) -- defense having to comply. Teams MUST play at least
1 woman, and will play a person short if they are not able to put a female player on the line for any given point. Any team
wishing to pick up a female player to make up for having 2 or less women present must have the agreement of ALL captains present
for both teams.
Picking up outside players or guest players is strongly discouraged, but can be allowed if captains from both teams agree
(e.g., if a team does not have an adequate number of subs to put on a good game). However, the right for a non-team player
to play may be revoked at any time, and should be revoked if an adequate number of team players are present -- i.e., team
players showing up late.
Each team will have 2 time-outs per game. But each team will only be allowed to use one time-out once the game is soft-capped.
Time-outs last 1 minute.
Initial possession will be determined by a coin flip. Team winning the coin toss will decide whether to receive the pull
at the start of the game or at the start of the second half. The team losing the coin toss decides which endzone they will
defend at the start of the game. Possession to start the second half is irregardless of who wins the last point before half
-- with possession and endzone being reversed for the start of the second half from that at the start of the first half.
All captains will be responsible to keep the level of play and any talk on the field fun and friendly. Any actions or
words by a player on either team that are inappropriate to this atmosphere should be pointed out and acted on if necessary
(ask the player to sit out for a point). Examples are aggressive and dangerous play, rude actions/words, basically any conduct
that is not in the style of the "Spirit of the Game". Additionally, all players are expected to conform to the
Carrboro Recreation and Parks Code of Conduct.
Disagreements on the field (i.e., disputing a call) that last longer than 15 seconds will have to be removed from the
field. Any two players continuing to argue or unwilling to resume play as outlined in the UPA Rules will be asked to leave
the field and be substituted for.
A dropped pull (any pull that comes in contact with a member of the receiving team and then comes in contact with the
ground) is a TURN OVER -- even if out-of-bounds. Likewise, all rules determining method of putting the disc into play after
a pull will follow the guidelines of UPA Rules 10th edition, section VIII-B.
The Carrboro Recreation and Parks staff person will be responsible for providing cones, setting up field, instituting
coin-flip, noting possession as it will occur after half-time, keeping track of time-outs, and recording final scores. Staff
person will also be responsible for timing the 60-second time-outs as well as announcing the time-caps at one hour and 30
minutes and one hour 45 minutes.
