Carrboro's First Sectionals Attempt
News
Congrats to Carrboro's First Sectionals Attempt - FOURTH IN THE STATE!
Disc-worshipers of Carrboro:
I wanted to send a quick note out to congratulate "The Peoples Republic of Carrboro" for competing in the North Carolinian Sectionals Championships. The "Peeps" battled it out Saturday in the Ultimate Players Associations Coed division and managed to get fourth in the state (out of six! :) By all accounts, the day was a good one. For the first time (that I know of), Carrboro placed a team in this competition, and I have to say everyone played their hearts out. We finished the day 2-3. More on sectionals play...
Mens team starting - 2005
Here's a note from Tom Herndon, who is starting a men's team for Carrboro/Chapel Hill area players:
Attached (PDF file here) is a summary of thoughts I've been brooding over for the last year. I coach some great kids and love watching them grow in the sport. However, my own skill development has been limited for lack of play and practice. I'm sure several other folks are itching to play more and play better. The only way to get better is to create a team with which to improve. So I talked to several other players and Ultiguru's in the area over the recent months, especially during my injury time out and with their feedback have made this plan.
I'm looking for twenty folks like myself who may not have been part of a top
flight college program but still want to play with that intensity and
committment to deep shots, sick grabs and nasty defense that makes the game
so rewarding. Especially nasty defense, not the pick-up "force flick" with
a break every other pass.
I'm hoping to build the team from the established Carrboro scene, but will also extend the invitation to the rest of the Triangle once the West siders have had their say in the matter.
I'm not able to act on this in any concrete way until mid May, when the Juniors competitive season closes. Probably hosting the first practice/try-out? the weekend after Kudzu/Memorial Day.
I'm putting the proposal out now to give folks time to think it over, weigh their options and communicate with me the level of their interest.
On a fun note: tentative names I've mined and have some logo ideas in my head to accompany
1) Meanderthals - wandering primate with plastic
2) Isobar - some work with contour lines
3) Bloom - I'd have to show you. . .
If the proposal fits you, lemme know. I'll set up a listserv and we'll get started.
Thanks and see you in cleats!
